Critics Review
What a great read!
If you ever served in the military, went through boot camp or basic training, and especially if you ever went to flight training-and ultimately anyone who ever went to war-read this book.
John B Sylvester, Lieutenant General, US Army, Retired
‘Equal measure humour, action and sheer terror. I read this true story in one sitting. Commander Brad Vincent, Royal Australian Navy, author of ‘Far from Breaking Waves’. He gives you insight into some serious, some tragic, and some funny war stories as “you are there” with him. His stories will spark similar memories in any Vietnam veteran helicopter pilots, myself included. Reviewer - Walter Sipes, PhD, Tucson, AZ. 282nd Assault Helicopter Company, 5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping and personal memoir Reviewed in Australia on 18 September 2024
Puts the reader in the pilot’s seat and gives an exciting and raw picture of what it was really like to fly helicopters in action in Vietnam. The author describes mundane routine and humorous incidents but doesn’t hold back on the grim business of war.

Richard Guay’s book returns us to a time in history when nations and their citizens were at odds with each other over this war in Vietnam. In the telling of events during that time by one who participated bravely in two tours of this conflict, it is a timely reminder that peace is not a natural state; we have to fight for it. The humorous anecdotes lightened the load along the way. Well done, Huey Man. Lest we forget. Janell.
