About The Author
Pat Lowe
Jimmy Pike (deceased)
Jimmy Pike was born near Japingka, a waterhole in the Great Sandy Desert, around 1940. His early years were spent as a hunter and gatherer. At the age of 14, he walked out of the desert with his family, who moved to a Kimberley cattle station where he worked as a stockman. During a period of imprisonment, he discovered his talent for painting. This led to a successful artistic career, with his prints and paintings exhibited in galleries worldwide.
Pat Lowe
Pat Lowe was born and raised in England. She moved to Australia in 1972, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Her diverse career included teaching in Africa and working as a prison psychologist in Australia. Writing, however, has always been her primary passion. In 1979, she met Jimmy Pike, and a few years later, they established a camp together in the desert. This partnership led to their collaboration on several books. Pat also worked with Jukuna Mona Chuguna and Ngarta Jinny Bent to document their stories. She currently resides in Broome. Her book Desert Dog received the WA Premier’s Literary Award and was recognized as a Children’s Book Council of Australia Notable Book.
