Over the years more than 3000 musucians have performed there, including Evean Parker, Keith Jarrett, Ornette Coleman, Chick Corea, Cecil Taylor, Betty Carter, Archie Shepp, Dollar Brand, Don cherry, Anthony Braxton, John Abercrombie, Horace Silver, Sun Ra, McCoy Tyner, Michel Petruccianni and John Zorn; the festival has become the epitome of of dedicated atmospheric jazz concerts. Niklaus Troxler was the director of the international Jazz Festival Willisau from 1975-2009. As a result of his work as a independent graphic designer he received numerous national and international design awards. From 1998 to 2013 he was a professor at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design. Olivier Senn received a doctorate in musicology. The focus of his research is in music performance studies and jazz history. Since 2006 he has worked as a music researcher at the Lucerne University of Applied Science and Art.
