What’s Out There?

We all know about kangaroos, koalas and gum trees, but have you ever heard of the pademelon, handfish or idiot fruit tree? Would you recognise a wombat poo or the cry of a yellow wattlebird, or know how to say kangaroo in Guuguyimithirr? Australia is old. Really old. We are the home of the oldest living plant, oldest animal fossils and the oldest continuing culture of people on Earth. In What’s Out There, you can dig, dive and delve your way through Australia from the time of Gondwanaland and megafauna through to today, learning about some of the most amazing plants, rocks, creatures and cultures that make up this extraordinary country.

Author and illustrator Nicole Stewart loves getting outside and discovering more about Australia. She has worked at the Museum of Victoria for five years and her projects now include nature-based events for kids with the City of Adelaide, while living in the Adelaide Hills. Nicole has worked with a mix of peo­ple including scientists, artists, writers, museum curators and kids, developing all sorts of projects from Phar Lap, blue whales, the first Holden cars, podcasts, and also creating websites for Stephen Fry…
