Nick Barber
Dr. Nick Barber is Emeritus Professor of Pharmacy at UCL and a leading global expert in the field, recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
He pioneered a national service for patients initiating new medications, now utilized by approximately one million UK patients annually and replicated in six other countries, yielding savings of over £6 billion for the NHS. Professor Barber also created the national framework for good prescribing practices, which became the benchmark for GP performance, and his research into medication errors in care homes prompted a Ministerial Summit and led to significant national policy reforms.
With over 200 published research papers and more than 23,000 citations, his academic contributions are substantial. Additionally, he presented the BBC series “Victorian Pharmacy,” four one-hour episodes first broadcast in 2010. The series garnered 2.6 million viewers upon its initial airing, achieved international distribution, and continues to be repeated, with high ratings including 8.1 on IMDB and 4.6⁄5 on Amazon.
