Neal Asher (born 4 February 1961 in Billericay, Essex, England) is an English science fiction writer. Although he began writing speculative fiction in secondary school, Asher did not turn seriously to writing until he was 25. He worked as a machinist and machine programmer from 1979 to 1987 and as a gardener from 1979 to 1987.He published his first short story in 1989. His novel Gridlinked was published in 2001, the first in a series of novels made up of Gridlinked, The Line of Polity, Brass Man, Polity Agent, and Line War. Peter Noble grew up in South Africa and studied drama and music at the University of Cape Town. He worked extensively as an actor, touring South Africa with a small repertory theatre company, as well as working on radio, TV and film. He later moved to London and graduated from LAMDA, then from the Royal Academy of Music as a singer. An Earphones Award-winning narrator, Peter Noble has recorded more than 250 audiobooks and audio dramas.
