What They're Saying

Critics Review

The world is on fire, and this is the book we need in this moment: a powerful reminder that ending patriarchy means fundamentally reorganising society at its roots, not tinkering at the edges – Angela Saini, author of THE PATRIARCHSFantastic and timely … It reminds us that we risk losing much of what has been achieved. I highly recommend this book to all women so they can understand their circumstances and the urgency of collective action – Zahra Joya, author of THE VANISHING GIRL OF KABULThis book couldn’t be more timely, or more needed. So many of the hard-won rights and freedoms women have earned over the last decades are being eroded and rolled back. Walter brings brilliance and thoughtfulness to bear in looking at the whole picture, including those places in the world where women are fighting to improve their circumstances with astonishing courage and will. I found it a joy to read, if at times painful – Juliet StevensonAt the heart of Natasha Walter’s book is a proposition that actually filled me with hope - that in a world so fractured, angry and warring, it is women who can come together to reclaim the values of community, safety, solidarity and compassion. I found myself thinking, yes to that, sister – Mary PortasRefreshing and inspiring – Caroline LucasThis is a wonderful book, terrifying yet full of hope. I highly recommend it: Natasha Walter’s analysis and storytelling are always impeccable – Nicolas Niarchos, author of ELEMENTS OF POWERNatasha Walters is a unique voice in that she’s worked for years with some of the most marginalised women in society - asylum seekers and refugees - but also is a big picture thinker. She interrogates the big, systemic changes of what’s happening to women’s rights globally and she’s right: this is a world on fire. This book will help you understand exactly how – Carole Cadwalladr
