Moebius
French artist Jean Giraud, known for his hard-boiled western comic series Blueberry, established a second career as Moebius starting in 1963 with a series of short stories. He gained international acclaim for his science-fiction, artistic, and erotic works, and for his collaborations with Alejandro Jodorowsky, including the wordless comic fantasy Arzach.
In 1983, Moebius co-founded the Aedena company and relocated to Los Angeles. During his time in the USA, he published significant works with Marvel Comics and illustrated an episode of Silver Surfer by Stan Lee.
Beyond his extensive comic and illustration work, Moebius contributed to the film industry. He provided preliminary designs for films such as Alien, Tron, The Abyss, Masters of the Universe, and The Fifth Element. He also created concept art for Alejandro Jodorowsky’s unproduced adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune.
Moebius passed away in Paris on March 10, 2012, at the age of 73.
