About The Author
Michael A.O. Lewis
Dr. Williams leads the Oral Microbiology Group at the School of Dentistry, Cardiff University, Cardiff, UK. His career has spanned roles in the pharmaceutical industry, food microbiology, and academia, following his first degree from Cardiff University.
He completed his PhD at the School of Dentistry, Cardiff, focusing on the immunopathogenesis of oral candidosis. His ongoing research at Cardiff University is primarily in Clinical Microbiology, with a strong emphasis on microbial biofilms.
Dr. Williams’ research investigates:
- Biofilm susceptibility to antimicrobial agents
- Expression of virulence factors (e.g., hydrolytic enzyme production, adhesion)
- Microbial modulation of innate immune responses
