Mehran Ghasemlou

Dr. Mehran Ghasemlou

Dr. Mehran Ghasemlou is an Alfred Deakin Research Fellow at Deakin University, Australia. He collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to develop innovative bioplastic products, focusing on bio-inspired materials, food packaging solutions, and bioplastics technology.

Dr. Ghasemlou holds a Master’s degree in Food Science and Engineering from the University of Tehran, Iran, and a Ph.D. in Biobased Polymers from Michigan State University, USA. His doctoral research at RMIT University resulted in the development of a novel bioplastic that mimics the surface properties of a lotus leaf.

He is an active member of several scientific organizations and contributes to leading journals in food science and materials engineering.

Dr. Shima Jafarzadeh

Dr. Shima Jafarzadeh is an Alfred Deakin Research Fellow at the Centre for Sustainable Bioproducts, School of Engineering, Deakin University, Australia. Her expertise lies in bioplastics, thin film composites, and biopolymeric materials, with a particular focus on applications in food packaging.

Previously, she served as a Research Fellow at Edith Cowan University, where she contributed to multidisciplinary projects aimed at developing innovative bioplastic products. She also participated in a collaborative project with Curtin University and CSIRO focused on biomaterials development.

Dr. Jafarzadeh earned her Ph.D. in Biopolymer from the University of Sains Malaysia, where she successfully developed a novel hydrophobic bioplastic for food packaging. She has received multiple awards for her publication excellence, including the Sanggar Sanjung and Hadiah Sanjungan awards from Universiti Sains Malaysia.
