About The Author

Maurice Gee

Maurice Gee (1931-2025) was one of New Zealand’s most distinguished and prolific novelists for adults and children. He won several top literary awards and fellowships in New Zealand and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in the UK. In 2003 he was presented with an Icon Award, which recognises 20 of New Zealand’s most significant artists.

His best-known novels include the Plumb trilogy, Going West (winner of the Wattie Award), Live Bodies (winner of the Montana Award) and In My Father’s Den, which was made into an international feature film. Among Maurice Gee’s many acclaimed children’s novels, Under the Mountain (adapted for television, film and theatre) and The O Trilogy are considered New Zealand classics.
