Stan Lee
A titan of the comic book industry, Stan Lee began his career at Timely Comics and remained a driving force through its Atlas era. He revolutionized storytelling with Fantastic Four #1 and, alongside legendary artists, introduced an unforgettable pantheon of heroes including the Incredible Hulk, Amazing Spider-Man, and the X-Men, forging a shared universe that set a benchmark for rivals. After a lifetime of writing and editing, Lee expanded into new entertainment ventures, consistently creating opportunities for Marvel. He remains one of Marvel’s most recognizable public faces.
Jack “King” Kirby
With a career spanning nearly six decades, Jack “King” Kirby began his journey in 1937. In the 1940s, partnering with Joe Simon, Kirby left an indelible mark on DC Comics with features like SANDMAN, THE NEWSBOY LEGION, and MANHUNTER, and contributed to Marvel with CAPTAIN AMERICA, THE YOUNG ALLIES, and the KID COMMANDOS. The celebrated Simon-Kirby duo further innovated with titles and concepts such as FIGHTING AMERICAN, BOYS’ RANCH, and pioneering the romance comics genre. Kirby’s status as a preeminent creator was solidified in 1961 with Marvel’s FANTASTIC FOUR, followed by legendary runs on INCREDIBLE HULK, AVENGERS, and X-MEN. He later returned to DC in 1971, creating the seminal FOURTH WORLD TRILOGY, THE DEMON, and KAMANDI, continuing his innovative work until his passing in 1994.

His exploration of prejudice and tolerance resonated deeply with fans, building an unparalleled following over three decades. Under his stewardship, the X-Men franchise flourished with numerous spin-offs, many penned by Claremont himself. His other notable works include Iron Fist, Ms. Marvel, Power Man, and Spider-Woman. Claremont has continued to contribute to the X-Men universe in titles such as New Exiles, GeNext, X-Men Forever, Chaos War: X-Men, and Nightcrawler.

John Byrne has been a constant presence in the comics industry as both writer and artist since 1975. After an initial collaboration with Chris Claremont on Iron Fist, the duo moved to X-Men, delivering a run still considered among the title’s finest. Byrne’s subsequent work on Fantastic Four earned him acclaim, with his imaginative plots and dynamic art drawing comparisons to the original Lee/Kirby issues. He also launched Alpha Flight as its own series. In 1986, Byrne revitalized DC’s flagship character, Superman, with a historic reimagining that garnered a cover feature in Time magazine. His extensive contributions to the Marvel Universe include celebrated runs on Captain America, Iron Man, Sensational She-Hulk, Namor the Sub-Mariner, and Thing. In the 21st century, Byrne’s notable projects include IDW’s Star Trek and Angel.

A prolific and imaginative designer, Cockrum updated the costumes for the Legion of Super-Heroes and the X-Men, infusing them with his signature style of wide shoulder lapels, prominent belts, and buccaneer boots. These designs remained influential throughout the 1980s, and his aesthetic continues to resonate in the industry today.
