Critics Review

Praise for Civil War“Civil War proved nothing was off the table in super-hero comics — and shouldn’t be. It was clear from the first issue that Millar and McNiven had changed the game, opening the door for so many stories that followed. Iconic.” – Charles Soule, #1 New York Times Best-Selling author of Light of the Jedi“Still one of my favorite Marvel storylines. Civil War really shook up the Marvel Universe, pitting friends against each other over an actual, important matter of principle: security vs. freedom. It’s a snapshot of its time — but for good or bad, it’s still as relevant as ever today.” – Stuart Moore, New-York Times Best-Selling co-author of The Zodiac Legacy and author of Captain America for Dummies“One the most well-known and best-regarded comic-book crossovers of all time.” - AIPT

About The Author

Mark Millar

Mark Millar is a New York Times best-selling writer known for his work on Wanted, the Kick-Ass series, The Secret Service, Jupiter’s Legacy, Nemesis, Superior, Supercrooks, American Jesus, MPH, and Starlight.

His works Wanted, Kick-Ass, Kick-Ass 2, and The Secret Service (adapted as Kingsman: The Secret Service) have been made into feature films. At DC Comics, he is celebrated for his influential Superman: Red Son. For Marvel Comics, he wrote The Ultimates, which Time magazine named the comic book of the decade, the acclaimed Wolverine story “Old Man Logan,” and Civil War, the highest-selling series in the industry in nearly twenty years.

Millar has served as producer and executive producer on adaptations of his work. Following the acquisition of his Millarworld comic line by Netflix in 2017, he remains the company’s president. In recognition of his contributions to film and literature, he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by the Queen in 2013.

Steve McNiven’s career took off after a chance visit to San Diego Comic-Con, leading to a position at CrossGen Comics where he became a regular on Meridian. After CrossGen’s closure, McNiven moved to Marvel Knights 4 with writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, followed by Ultimate Secret with Warren Ellis.

In 2006, McNiven and Mark Millar reshaped the Marvel Universe in Civil War. His subsequent projects included Brian Michael Bendis’ New Avengers and the initial story arc of Amazing Spider-Man’s “Brand New Day” era. McNiven and Millar reunited for “Old Man Logan” in Wolverine and the creator-owned Nemesis, published under the Marvel Icon imprint.

With Ed Brubaker, McNiven helped relaunch Captain America. His later Marvel work includes Guardians of the Galaxy with Bendis and Uncanny Avengers with Rick Remender. McNiven solidified his reputation as a premier Wolverine artist with the landmark series Death of Wolverine.
