Transformational Leadership in Nursing

Marion E. Broome, PhD, RN, FAAN, is Dean Emeritus of the School of Nursing and Ruby Wilson Professor of Nursing Emeritus at Duke University, in Durham, North Carolina. Prior to joining Duke, Dr. Broome was dean of the Indiana University School of Nursing and associate vice president for nursing at Indiana University Health, where she was awarded the rank of distinguished professor. Widely regarded as an expert, scholar, and leader in pediatric nursing research and practice, Dr. Broome was funded externally by the American Cancer Society, the National Institutes of Health, and various foundations for two decades. Dr. Broome’s research is published in more than 142 papers in 61 nursing, medicine, and interdisciplinary journals. She also has published seven books and 21 chapters. Dr. Broome was editor in chief of Nursing Outlook, the official journal of the American Academy of Nursing and the Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science from 2003-2022. She completed a variety of leadership training courses while serving in the Army Nurse Corps, a Management and Leadership in Education Certificate from Harvard University, and the Center for Creative Leadership’s Leading for Organizational Leadership Course.
