What They're Saying

Critics Review

Pin looms seem to be popular at the moment, with most spinning suppliers stocking them. They offer a portable way to enjoy weaving and make small shapes that can be sewn together patchwork-fashion to make useful things. This book starts with several pages giving woodwork instructions for making your own loom - with templates for five sizes - and has weaving instructions and 40 projects for items you can make from your weaving. The weaving instructions start with a basic square then eight patterns created with weaving for different textures. Later in the book one of the projects has instructions for a ‘houndstooth’ pattern made with two colours. For joining the squares there are crochet techniques or sewing instructions. In the projects there are a range of bags in different styles and sizes, toys including dolls and a farmyard set, blankets including one with patterns for embroidery. All of the designs are neatly finished and presentable, some of the animals and birds are very appealing, this is very much a book about weaving in order to make things.
