In 2022, Sarah Nurse became the first Canadian biracial athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in women's hockey.
Raised in a family of athletes, Sarah Nurse began her hockey career at a young age. After playing on youth and school teams, Nurse played for the University of Wisconsin and joined Team Canada at the 2022 Olympic Games. But it wasn’t always easy. As one of few Black women in professional hockey, Nurse has faced discrimination and has spoken out against racism on and off the ice.
