About The Author

Marcus Sedgwick

Marcus Sedgwick (8 April 1968 – 15 November 2022) was a celebrated author and winner of numerous awards. He received the prestigious 2014 Michael L. Printz Award for his novel Midwinterblood. Sedgwick also earned two Printz Honors for Revolver (2011) and The Ghosts of Heaven (2016), making him one of the most recognized authors for young adults in America.

His debut novel, Floodland, won the Branford-Boase Award in 2001. My Swordhand is Singing was honored with the Booktrust Teenage Prize in 2007, and Lunatics and Luck, part of The Raven Mysteries series, received a Blue Peter Book Award in 2011.

Sedgwick’s books were shortlisted for over forty other accolades, including the Carnegie Medal (seven times), the Edgar Allan Poe Award (twice), and the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize (four times). He was also nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

In addition to his writing, Sedgwick served as Writer in Residence at Bath Spa University for three years. He contributed reviews to The Guardian newspaper and taught creative writing at Arvon and Ty Newydd. He also judged several significant book awards, including the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize and the Costa Book Awards.

Pete Williamson is an artist, illustrator, and animation designer. His notable works include the award-winning DINKIN DINGS AND THE FRIGHTENING THINGS and his illustrations for Marcus Sedgwick’s gothic series, The Raven Mysteries.
