About The Author
Malcolm McCarthy
Malcolm McCarthy was born in Cornwall in 1957 and was brought up in his mother’s native town of Padstow on the North Cornish coast. As a boy he was always around the harbour which was 30 yards from where he lived; this spurred an interest which would affect his whole life. He went to school at Padstow, Wadebridge and finally Bodmin College where he was head boy. After school he joined the metropolitan police where he served on Thames Division for 12 years before returning to be Berthing Master at Padstow Harbour for over 20 years.
