I truly believe Lucy is one of the most gifted homeware designers in our community - her work is endlessly inspiring, beautifully on-trend, and her use of colour and texture is simply unmatched. Seeing her reach this amazing milestone fills me with so much joy!It was so hard to choose just one project from the book (they’re all so lovely), but I eventually settled on the sweet vase cover, crocheted in luxurious mulberry silk yarn. And how perfect are these Shasta daisies from the garden? A stash buster to make a crochet lampshade!! It’s pretty cool. Originally, I ordered a scallop shaped frame like the one in Lucy’s new crochet book, Creative Modern Crochet for the Home, but it was going to take a month to arrive so I swapped it for a different one, which is plainer. It turned out to be also quite small too but nevermind. 

I was sent the book by Search Press to celebrate the book release. I have really enjoyed doing something different to my normal “go to” projects, it’s been fun!! There are loads of tempting patterns in Lucy’s book, I could have chosen any of them TBH. I have long admired her crochet aesthetic and it’s super interesting to try a new style every now and then.

There are twelve gorgeous patterns in the book but Molly my daughter has had her eye on the market bag for a little while. I use Lucy’s instructions and tips on the arcade stitch to reduce the size slightly for my daughter and it’s safe to say she absolutely adores it. I’m hoping that she’ll let me borrow it sometimes but we’ll have to wait and see. Order Lucy’s book now and happy crocheting!

How cute is the crochet pot with its beaded, removable lid in this book? It’s perfect for my secret stash of mini eggs (ssshhhh - don’t tell anyone where they are!!!). Lucy has designed such a beautiful collection of crochet projects for the home, and it was a really hard job trying to decide which project to make as they’re all so stunning. I’m so glad I chose this cute little pot to make. I couldn’t resist filling it with mini eggs - and when I’ve eaten them I can use it for cotton balls, or tiny scraps of yarn, or even buttons. So many options. There’s a full set of different sized pots with lids - and they’re the perfect mix of pretty and practical. Ideal for stash-busting, gifting, or just keeping your favourite snacks secret…I mooched in my stash to find some cotton yarn and this @kingcoleltd cotton was perfect. The pot design is ingenious because it uses small metal hoops for the lid and base to keep the pots sturdy. I found some metal bracelets that were my daughters, they must be about 25 years old - it’s great to finally find a great use for them!Lucy’s gorgeous book is out on 13th May and you can pre-order now from Search Press. I LOVE it! I have made a cute version of the storage wall hanger in the book. I was honoured to be sent a copy of my lovely friends Lucy’s stunning new book ‘Creative Modern Crochet’. I’m super proud of Lucy one of my first crochet students who I taught to crochet many years ago (she was a natural). The book holds over 12 beautiful designs featuring many types of crochet techniques. Lucy is crazy talented and the book is beautifully written. It was so hard for me to choose what to make first, in the end I decided on the ‘Market Bag’ because I love a crochet bag.

Search Press sent me an advanced copy of Creative Modern Crochet for the Home by Lucy Djevdet. Lucy has some beautiful modern clean designs. They’re absolutely gorgeous. There’s one piece in the book… I mean all the pieces are beautiful, but there’s one piece in particular. It’s so simple but it’s so gorgeous. It’s the chunky feather stitch pillow that I totally fell in love with. I haven’t tried this stitch before and would you believe that this is made with chunky acrylic yarn? I would never know. It’s absolutely beautiful. She’s got a great eye for yarn obviously and then there was another piece that I was going gaga over in this book and it is the wall hanging. The background is just crochet and then there’s all these embellishments on there, surface crochet. There’s weaving in there, there’s fringes. I could see this in a dorm room or a kid’s room, or even a craft room. You should check out this book and you should be following Lucy at @craftingbylucy if you’re not already.

For many years, I have styled Lucy’s designs for Inside Crochet magazine and always get excited receiving her parcels for the shoots as I know her projects are always clever, contemporary and so desirable. Therefore, as soon as I saw she had written a book I knew I would need it. Here’s a little peek at what is inside along with a super cute, practical and simple project I have made from it. This little plant hanger is a mixture of crochet and macrame and I chose it partly as I always need another receptacle for my plants and partly as I haven’t done any macrame for a while, so was a great opportunity to dust off my rusty skills. I happened to finish a tin of peanut butter right when I was making this which is fortuitous and I think my baby spider plant looks great in it, don’t you? I was spoilt for choice, so many lovely patterns to inspire you. I have a fondness for bags so as you can guess I had to crochet the wonderful market bag. It’s coming on beautifully.
