Critics Review
Atmospheric and fast-paced, with intricately drawn illustrations, this tense, heartfelt 9+ animal adventure deals both with the impact of climate change on traditional Sami ways of life, and the deep human need to find where you belong. * The Guardian *
It is a thrilling adventure story, full of action and high stakes, with the beautifully tender relationship between child and wolf at its heart. Saahko worked hard to make the book accessible to young readers, keeping chapters short with plenty of cliffhangers to hook them into the narrative. Jason Cockcroft’s luminous cover artwork captures the wild beauty of the story, while the interior black and white illustrations, of Lumi’s forest diary, are Saahko’s own. * The Bookseller *
Read the first sentence and I see the tracks of the story in the snow, wolf tracks, and I follow every word, every page, every footprint where the wolf takes me, where Lumi takes me. Here is storytelling at its best, the story utterly mesmerising and deeply touching.
Read it by the fire though, so your hands and feet don’t get cold. A cold hard journey it may be, but so worthwhile. Unforgettable. Bravo Lumi, bravo Lottie!
Michael Morpurgo.

Absolutely captivating. Lumi and the Wolf is spellbinding, sensitively written and sweeps you away from the very first page. Lottie Saahko is a STUNNING storyteller. I’m obsessed! * Mel Taylor-Bessent, author of The Christmas Carrolls series *
A heartwarming, beautifully written adventure… I definitely found myself tearing up towards the end (in a good way), and this is one that fans of brilliant authors Hannah Gold and Lui Sit will love. * Philippa Leathley, author of the Inkbound series *
Lumi and the Wolf may be set in the wintry wonderland of Finland, but it’s a warm hug of a book, grounded by a beautiful, unexpected friendship and packed with so much heart. A true joy of a read. * JJ Arcanjo, author of Crookhaven *
A stand-out voice and a terrific adventure, I loved every moment of Lumi and the Wolf. With a brave autistic girl at the forefront, Lumi and the Wolf is destined to be a classic of children’s literature. Complete wonder, utter magic. * Lizzie Huxley-Jones author of the Vivi Conway series *
High adventure, neurodiverse feisty heroine, action-packed short chapters; it’s a teacher’s gold standard * Jude, owner of the Only Make Believe Bookshop *
The must buy children’s book of the year!!! * Liliana, Waterstones bookseller *
I just absolutely adored it. It was such a beautiful story about autistic joy and resilience, with a gorgeous, well-rounded cast of characters (including the incredible wolf). * Anna Zoe Quirke, author of Something to be Proud Of *
Beautifully drawn setting with a touching friendship at its core. Lumi and Wolf are a lovely pair. * Elle McNicoll, author of A Kind of Spark *
A heartfelt adventure set in the snowy Finnish wonderlands. Sensitively written, this is bound to appeal to animal lovers everywhere * Hannah Gold, author of The Last Bear *
A gorgeous wintry adventure. * Abi Elphinstone, author of Sky Song *
A thrilling adventure full of warmth, friendship and page-turning excitement * Pari Thomson, author of Greenwild *
What an adventure! This cosy story of a girl’s friendship with an injured wolf is so sweet and takes you right into the snowy fells of Lapland! …Kids are going to ‘Lap’ this up!’ * Emily-Jane Clark, author of the Cringe Club series *
Hannah Gold meets Elle McNicoll with a sprinkle of Moomin midwinter magic… An achingly beautiful story of unexpected friendships and finding a place to belong… Lottie’s gentle, lyrical autistic voice is a gorgeous addition to neurodivergent representation. One of the easiest five stars I’ve ever had to give. * Claire Hatcher-Smith author of The Mizzy Mysteries series *
So pacey and full of heart… An absolute classic of an adventure. * Jacob North, author of Ice Apprentices *
