Lloyd Alexander was one of America's most respected and best-loved authors with a huge international following. The Chronicles of Prydain won many awards, including the Newbery Medal for The High King and a Newbery Honor for The Black Cauldron. In 2003 he was awarded a Life Achievement Award by the World Fantasy Convention.
