Self-proclaimed “mushroom geeks,” Kristen and Trent Blizzard have been trekking the woods with their dogs, Benzie and Lu, mostly with mushrooms in mind for over ten years. What began as a hobby quickly became an obsession. They follow mushrooms seasonally and enjoy yearly hunting expeditions in California, Colorado, Wisconsin, Oregon, and Western burn sites. While not mycologists, they utilize the science behind edible mushrooms to locate prime terrain. Kristen was introduced to wild edibles and mushrooms through a science center in Colorado, viewing mushrooming as hiking with purpose, and cherishing the peripheral benefits: time in the forest, travel and exploration, connection with fellow mushroom enthusiasts, and exercising their dogs. Trent has taken his passion for fungi to the next level as the President of the North American Mycological Association, enjoying regular engagement with the community and supporting mycological societies nationwide. Together, they are the creators of digital burn morel maps and authors of the book Wild Mushrooms: A Cookbook and Foraging Guide. Their greatest wish is to help others discover the same joys of nature that they cherish.
