About The Author
Khenpo Karthar
Khenpo Karthar was born in eastern Tibet in 1922. At the age of twelve, he entered Thrangu Monastery, where he dedicated many years to training, long retreats, pilgrimages, and philosophical studies. Following the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1959, Rinpoche escaped to India. He taught for several years at Buxa and subsequently at Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim. He also served as the abbot of Tashi Choling Monastery in Bhutan and later at Tilokpur Nunnery in northern India.
In 1978, the Sixteenth Karmapa appointed Rinpoche as his chief representative in the United States, tasked with teaching the dharma. Currently, Rinpoche is the abbot of Karma Triyana Dharmachakra Monastery in Woodstock, New York, and the retreat master of the Karme Ling Three-Year Retreat Center.
