This book compiles information on fungicide resistance over the past three decades on the status, development, and processes involved in the build-up of resistance in pathogens to different groups of fungicides, while also suggesting various measures for managing this problem.

Pathogen resistance to fungicides has become a challenging problem in the managing of crop diseases and has threatened the performance of some highly potent commercial fungicides. Worldwide, resistance to more than 100 different active ingredients has been reported. This book compiles information on fungicide resistance over the past three decades on the status, development, and processes involved in the build-up of resistance in pathogens to different groups of fungicides, while also suggesting various measures for managing this problem.
Dr. Tarlochan S. Thind works as a Senior Plant Pathologist and Head of the Department of Plant Pathology at Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana, India, and is also currently President of the Indian Phytopathological Society. He has 33 years' experience of working on disease problems in vegetables, fruits and cereals. His areas of research include use of epidemiological parameters in need-based application of fungicides in managing plant diseases, variability in plant pathogens and the problem of fungicide resistance in plant pathogens. Dr. Thind has also worked at INRA, France, and served as FAO consultant for disease diagnosis in vegetable crops in West Africa. He has published over 100 research articles in national and international journals, as well as editing five books and co-authoring another, on 'Disease Problem in Vegetable Production'. Fungicide Resistance in Crop Protection Edited by Tarlochan S. Thind Pathogen resistance to fungicides has become a challenging problem in the management of crop diseases. It has threatened the performance of some highly potent commercial fungicides, resulting in resistance to more than 100 different active ingredients reported from around the world. This book compiles information on fungicide resistance from the past three decades, beginning with the history of resistance development, then exploring the status, detection and management of resistance in pathogens to different groups of fungicides with diverse case studies from countries including France, India, Italy, Japan and the USA. It also discusses the genetics of resistance and the problem of multidrug resistance, before concluding with an overview of the work and initiatives of the Fungicide Resistance Action Committee (FRAC) for managing this problem. An essential resource for researchers and students of plant pathology and mycology, this book is also a useful collection of the present status and future projections of fungicide resistance for extension workers and pesticide industry personnel.
