J.L.D. Woodruff
Laurie Woodruff holds a BA in Politics and Economics from Oxford University. After retiring from a career in public accounting in Canada, he spent six months at Virginia Tech collaborating with Professors James A. (Bud) Robertson and William C. (Jack) Davis. Under their mentorship, he developed and now manages the Essential Civil War Curriculum.
Currently a project of the Center for Civil War Studies at Virginia Tech, the Essential Civil War Curriculum offers a comprehensive list of over 300 topics recommended for study by leading Civil War historians.
Woodruff is a member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. He has researched over 125 of his own family members who served in the Civil War. After reviewing numerous pension files, he became motivated to understand the pension system that generated them.
