About The Author
Jim Davis
Jim Davis
Born July 28, 1945, in Marion, Indiana, Jim Davis attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He is the creator of the beloved comic strip Garfield, which debuted on June 19, 1978.
Initially syndicated in forty-one U.S. newspapers, Garfield has grown to be published in more than 2,100 newspapers worldwide, reaching an audience of over 200 million readers. This remarkable success led Guinness World Records to recognize Garfield as the Most Widely Syndicated Comic Strip in the World.
Davis’s accomplishments with Garfield extend beyond syndication, including four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Animated Program and induction into the Licensing Hall of Fame in 1998. However, he holds his peer-awarded honors from the National Cartoonist Society in especially high regard. These include Best Humor Strip in 1981 and 1985, the Elzie Segar Award in 1990, and the prestigious Reuben Award in 1990, recognizing his overall excellence in cartooning.
