Critics Review
A fascinating comic creation
A fascinating comic creation * Independent *It is a funny and inventive book and Turner manages to fence dazzlingly with stereotypes and sharp home truths while making her mordant observations part of a far bigger picture – Stuart Kelly * Scotland on Sunday *This is an original first novel, cruel and incisive – Viv Groskop * Sunday Express *This is a very clever, subtle novel, that in its quiet way polishes the surface of things so that we see them, for a while, as if for the first time – Nicholas Lezard * Evening Standard *A highly amusing and pretty convincing satire of the newspaper industry * Times Literary Supplement *Seriousness and farce are perfectly balanced in an elegant, thoughtful whole – Roz Kaveney * Time Out *Turner, a writer and journalist herself, faithfully portrays the dynamics of a media environment, often to comic effect * New Statesman *This wry, teasing novel should appeal to hacks and Hegel fans everywhere * Guardian *All of [the characters] are exquisitely drawn, satirically yet with compassion… Her style is so considered and condensed it is sometimes as beautiful as blank verse… Jenny Turner is a gifted novelist and this novel, slender but never slight, leaves you wanting more – Hermione Eyre * Independent *[A] smartly-written novel…the writing remains fresh and persuasive – Hepzibah Anderson * Observer *
