Critics Review

“Dr. Catanzaro has provided the field of eating disorders with a long-needed resource addressing the relationship with food in the context of body liberation and through the lens of Internal Family Systems (IFS). As a fat eating disorders and weight discrimination activist with lived experience, I appreciate how I have personally benefited from IFS work and highly recommend this important resource to both clinicians and those pursuing recovery.”

―Chevese Turner, internationally recognized activist and advocate, CEO of Body Equity Alliance, and founder of the Binge Eating Disorder Association

“Unburdened Eating is a deeply hopeful book. Jeanne Catanzaro provides a clear, compassionate path to heal your relationship with food and your body. Using the Internal Family Systems approach, you will discover a powerful inner Self, the deepest ‘you, ’ capable of healing the wounds that drive eating disorders, disordered eating, and body shame. This book is an essential guide to gentle and resilient change, and to letting go of the psychological burdens and cultural narratives that impede deep healing. Put this book on the top of your list.”

―Amy Pershing, LMSW, ACSW, CCTP-II, author of Binge Eating Disorder: The Journey to Recovery and Beyond and coauthor of The Emotional Eating, Chronic Dieting, Binge Eating & Body Image Workbook

“With her deep knowledge of Internal Family Systems (IFS) combined with an understanding of anti-diet, weight-inclusive frameworks, Jeanne Catanzaro offers a powerful approach to heal from the disordered eating and body shame that is rampant in our culture. From a place of compassion, Jeanne will show you how dieting, bingeing, self-criticism, and the pursuit of weight loss have been survival strategies, and how you can move toward a more peaceful relationship with food and your body by developing greater curiosity and awareness of your authentic needs. Unburdened Eating also serves as an important resource for clinicians to help their clients develop the understanding of ‘parts’ needed to reconnect with their inner wisdom so that they can trust and nourish their bodies from a place of strength.”

―Judith Matz, LCSW, coauthor of The Emotional Eating, Chronic Dieting, Binge Eating & Body Image Workbook and Beyond a Shadow of a Diet
