Critics Review
Body Safety Education is a non-fiction resource that will help parents and educators empower our children to know what is unsafe touch and what to do about it. Sadly 85% of children who are sexually abused know the offender and the most vulnerable age for children to be exposed to sexual abuse is 3-8. This book is full of helpful information and facts that everyone needs to know. Child sex offenders are often charming and appear reliable and trustworthy and they groom both the child and the child’s family by paying special attention and spending lots of time with them. –Maggie Dent What a simple, step-by-step, empowering guide for parents! You may worry that you can’t educate your child about sexual abuse without scaring her, or raising inappropriate topics. But in fact there are age-appropriate ways to introduce the concept of body safety and to develop your child’s understanding over time. You don’t need to even mention sex or sexual abuse. One terrific book to guide you is Jayneen Sander’s new book. If, like so many parents, you feel at a loss for how to get started having these conversations with your child, get your hands on this book. –Dr Laura, Aha Parenting
Jayneen Sanders
Jayneen Sanders (aka Jay Dale) is an experienced Australian early years educator, children’s book author, and publisher.
She began her teaching career in the 1980s as a primary school teacher in rural Queensland, Australia, before moving to Melbourne, Victoria, to teach at several inner-city schools. In 1985, Jayneen transitioned to a career as an educational editor and publisher.
In the early 1990s, Jayneen and her partner lived and worked in Japan for over three and a half years as English teachers. Her first daughter was born during this time.
Upon returning to Australia, Jayneen worked as an educational author and packager, authoring and producing numerous award-winning titles for the educational publishing industry. She has also authored accomplished children’s books for literacy series like ZigZags, Totally Kidz, Deadly and Incredible, and a children’s picture book series for Penguin.
Jayneen is currently the lead author of the ‘Engage Literacy’ series, published by Capstone, for which she has written over 150 titles.
A mother of three daughters, Jayneen served as a school councillor for over seven years. Her experiences as both a teacher and a parent inspired her to question the level of child protection from inappropriate touch within schools. Realizing that little was being done, she utilized her authoring and publishing skills to write ‘Some Secrets Should Never Be Kept’ to aid parents, carers, and teachers in discussing this subject and encouraging children to speak up.
Following the positive reception of ‘Some Secrets Should Never Be Kept,’ Jayneen recognized a need for further prevention education. She participated in Protective Behaviours professional development and attended numerous conferences on child safety, empowering children with age-appropriate body safety and consent education.
Jayneen subsequently developed and published a comprehensive Body Safety and Respectful Relationship Teacher’s Resource Kit and authored more children’s books on topics such as body safety, consent, respect, gender equality, social and emotional intelligence, and diversity and inclusion.
Currently, Jayneen co-directs Educate2Empower Publishing with her partner, Mark Sanders. Her dedication to the safety and empowerment of children remains a driving force, with new manuscripts and free downloadable resources continually in development.
