About The Author
Jane Werner Watson
JANE WERNER WATSON (1915-2004) was the original editor of Little Golden Books, and the author of numerous Golden Books herself, many of which were illustrated by the great children’s illustrators of the mid-twentieth century. Some of her bestselling titles include The Fuzzy Duckling (illustrated by Martin and Alice Provensen), Animal Friends (illustrated by Garth Williams), and My Little Golden Book About God, The Christmas Story, and Wonders of Nature (all illustrated by Eloise Wilkin).
MARTIN PROVENSEN (1916-1987) and his wife, Alice, illustrated more than fifty books for children, including Our Animal Friends at Maple Hill Farm and numerous Little Golden Books, such as The Color Kittens and Katie the Kitten. In 1984, they won the Caldecott Medal for The Glorious Fight, which they wrote and illustrated together.
ALICE PROVENSEN (1918-2018) and her husband, Martin, illustrated more than fifty books for children, including Our Animal Friends at Maple Hill Farm and numerous Little Golden Books, such as The Color Kittens and Katie the Kitten. They won the Caldecott Medal for The Glorious Fight in 1984, and Alice won a Caldecott Honor in 1982 for A Visit to William Blake’s Inn.
