Jane Montgomery Griffiths

JANE MONTGOMERY GRIFFITHS has combined a career as a director and actor in the UK, with writing, academic research and university teaching. She has acted with theatre companies in the UK and Australia including the RSC/Thelma Holt, Salisbury Playhouse, Compass Theatre Company (winning the Manchester Evening News Best Actress Award for her portrayal of Electra), Chichester Festival Theatre, Cambridge Theatre Company and Bell Shakespeare Company. She has also been staff director at Harrogate Theatre and Artistic Director of the Triennial Cambridge Greek Play, staging acclaimed productions of Trojan Women and Electra. She has written two plays, Sappho… in 9 fragments, and Razing Hypatia. As a dramaturg, she has worked with English Touring Theatre, Harrogate Theatre and has been a script reader for BBC Wales, BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4, Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, and the Royal Court. Her academic work includes the Judith E Wilson and Leventis Visiting Fellowships in Drama at the University of Cambridge, Artist in Residence at La Trobe University, and she is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Theatre and Performance at Monash University.
