Sep/Oct 06 …contains a general introduction followed by sections on twisting, knotting, knitting, weaving, tablet weaving, free-end braiding, stand and bobbin braiding, loop manipulation, sprang, and ply-splitting. There are images of traditional and contemporary pieces and equipment; in-action photos and step-by-step projects for beginners; and a glimpse of some of the people in Africa, Asia, South America, and elsewhere engaged in producing these textiles. It is a nice introduction to this rich - and, I believe, underappreciated - part of the textile world…I found it a delightful book and I hope that it will tempt those not familiar with braids and narrow wares to “give it a go!” Handwoven

Jacqui Carey completed her B.A. Honours Degree at the West Surrey College of Art and Design in 1985. Since then she has specialised in Kumihimo, drawn to the subject through her love of Art and Maths. Based in Devon with her family, Jacqui divides her work time between making, teaching, writing, researching and demonstrating.
