About the Author

Professor Jacqueline Birt, BEd, BBus, MBus, PhD, CA, is a Professor of Accounting at the University of Western Australia and also the current Head of Department of Accounting and Finance at the University of Western Australia. She has taught accounting for over three decades. Prior to the University of Western Australia, she held appointments at the University of Queensland, Monash University, the Australian National University, the University of Amsterdam and the University of Melbourne. Jac's teaching and research is in financial accounting and accounting education. Her PhD focused on segment reporting and examined issues such as value relevance and voluntary segment disclosures. She has published in journals such as Review of Accounting Studies, Abacus, Journal of Business Ethics, Australian Journal of Management, Accounting & Finance, Accounting in Europe, Australian Journal of Adult Learning, Australian Accounting Review, Journal of Emerging Technologies and Accounting, Journal of Accounting Education and Accounting Education. Jac has been a recipient of the Pearson Education Accounting/Finance Lecturer of the Year Award and also the ANU Faculty of Economics and Commerce Award for Teaching Excellence. Jac's academic accounting appointments include Past President, Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand, and Education Board Member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Professor Keryn Chalmers, BCom, Grad Dip, PhD, is Dean and Professor of Accounting at School of Business, Law and Entrepreneurship at Swinburne University. Her prior roles include Deputy Dean (external and international), and Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance in the Faculty of Business and Economics at Monash University. During her academic career, she has been responsible for accounting-related curriculum development, quality assurance, and delivery at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Keryn's research in financial accounting and financial reporting is specifically in relation to accounting policy and disclosure choices of management. Keryn's academic association appointments include President, Australian Business Deans Council; President, International Association of Accounting Education and Research; and Past President, Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand.

Suzanne Maloney, BBus, MPhil, DipFinPlan, FCPA, GAICD, is an Associate Professor in the School of Business at the University of Southern Queensland. Her academic work has included the development and delivery of accounting and finance related curriculum at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Suzanne has received several teaching awards including from her institution, from CAANZ, and a National Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning. She chairs several community committees including the Toowoomba Regional Council Audit and Risk Committee, and is a member of the CPA Australia Centre of Excellence for Retirement Planning. This role dovetails into her current research examining superannuation, retirement planning and retirement transition.

Albie Brooks, BCom, DipEd, MBus, PhD, FCPA, is an Associate Professor in Accounting at the University of Melbourne. His teaching is predominantly in the areas of management accounting and managerial control. Albie's teaching experience includes undergraduate and postgraduate levels in both domestic and international settings. He has a particular interest in creating and developing innovative teaching materials such as simulations and cases that enhance student engagement in the study of accounting. His research activities relate to teaching and learning, and management accounting issues. Albie maintains strong connections with industry and the accounting profession through various engagement and teaching activities.

David Bond is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Accounting Discipline Group and Director, Master of Business Analytics, at the UTS Business School. He has published in journals including Accounting & Finance, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Journal of Contemporary Accounting & Economics and Australian Accounting Review, and is currently Deputy Editor on Accounting & Finance and Associate Editor on Accounting Education. David is currently on the Board for the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand, the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand, Women Sport Australia and Sydney Rugby Union. In addition, he is a Vice President At-Large for the International Association for Accounting Education & Research and a member of ACCA's Education Global Forum. He has previously held the position of Academic Fellow at the International Financial Reporting Standards Foundation in London, as well as a visiting academic at the London School of Economics. He has received a number of teaching awards, including an Australian Government Office for Learning & Teaching Citation.

Dr Judy Oliver has held appointments at Swinburne University, University of Tasmania and Victoria University. Judy has had responsibility for first-year accounting and management accounting units at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Her research interests are in management accounting control systems and corporate governance. She has published in journals such as Australian Accounting Review, International Journal of Quality & Reliability Management and the Journal of Accounting & Organizational Change.
