Jack Sim, widely known as “Mr. Toilet,” has dedicated his life to breaking the global taboo surrounding toilets and sanitation. He is the founder of the World Toilet Organization (WTO), a global non-profit organization committed to ensuring clean, safe toilets and sanitation for everyone, everywhere, at all times.
Born in a slum in Singapore in 1957, Sim’s entrepreneurial spirit was ignited by his uneducated mother, who established a series of small businesses. He was also deeply inspired by Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and witnessed firsthand Singapore’s remarkable transformation from a third-world to a first-world nation.
Despite early academic challenges, Sim became a successful commercial entrepreneur, launching sixteen businesses. After achieving financial independence, he transitioned to a career as a social entrepreneur. His commitment to social change led him to enroll at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, where he earned a Master’s in Public Administration at the age of 56. Later, at 59, he completed the Global Solutions Program at Singularity University.
Sim’s impactful work has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including:

In recognition of his profound contributions to humanity, Jack Sim was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK, in 2022.
