About The Author
Irina Ratushinskaya
Irina Ratushinskaya, born in Odessa in 1954, is a leading contemporary Russian poet. She was imprisoned for four years in a labor camp due to the religious themes in her poetry, which were considered ‘anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda’. Ratushinskaya smuggled her poems out of the camp and, following a series of hunger strikes, was released and subsequently came to Britain.
