Hill, Eric
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character, Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, later transitioning into a career as a cartoonist. Eventually, he became an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric conceived a bedtime story for his son about a small puppy, and thus, Spot was born. He published “Where’s Spot?” in 1980, an innovative interactive children’s book that featured a groundbreaking lift-the-flap format, complemented by a simple narrative and endearing, whimsical illustrations. The book’s instant popularity inspired him to pursue a full-time career as an author. Since then, Spot books have brought joy to children globally and have been adapted into audiobooks, animations, toys, and games.
