About The Author

Herbert Tillander

Herbert Tillander (1909-2006) was a prominent figure in the Finnish jewellery industry. Born in St Petersburg, he represented the third generation of the Tillander family, celebrated as jewellers to the Russian Imperial Court and founders of A.Tillander jewellery house. A dedicated supporter of goldsmithing, he authored numerous works and curated exhibitions to showcase the appeal of jewellery and gemstones. His passion for gemmology led to the establishment of the Finnish Gemmological Society in 1960 and the development of the Scandinavian Diamond Nomenclature.
