Description

Why do serial killers kill In this unique memoir, forensic psychiatrist Dr. Helen Morrison offers profound insight into this disturbing question, drawn from her professional experience working with the FBI and other law enforcement organizations profiling dozens of killers over three decades, including Richard Macek, Ed Gein, John Wayne Gacy, Wayne Williams, and more.

“Serial murderers do not relate to others on any level that you would expect another person to relate. While they can mimic anything, they’re missing a very essential core of human relatedness which leads them to kill as though killing were nothing more than stepping on an insect,” Dr. Morrison explains. Moving from interview rooms to crime scenes, she offers a privileged glimpse into the inner workings of a forensic psychiatrist, opening her own mind as she struggles to profile a killer. In addition to her own cases, Dr. Morrison provides “psychological autopsies”of serial killers from the Middle Ages to today, showing that they are not a recent phenomenon and exploring how these historical killers offer clues to understanding the psychopaths who threaten our own world.
