This book provides a broad review of internal medicine with regard to investigation, diagnosis and management. It discusses a variety of clinical entities in cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, haematology, neurology, oncology, rheumatology, renal and respiratory medicine. Chapters on genetic diseases, infectious diseases and the pattern of antimicrobial resistance to antibiotics, highlighting local incidence and statistics, have been added. Each chapter starts with a few paragraphs on the basic concepts of a particular topic and gradually develops the theme to present the state of the art regarding the topic, thereby imparting the expertise of the contributing author. The chapters are based on local practice and expertise with statistics and local experience unique to the Asia-Pacific region. This is the appeal of the book to doctors in the Asia-Pacific region and the Western world. Presently, there are several books in the market written by authors from the West, but they do not reflect the knowledge and experience of the patterns of disease in the Asia-Pacific region.
