Summary

He was broken, forgotten, and angry. So was she – in quieter ways. Gillian Wills makes an impulsive decision: she buys her first horse. Elvis is underweight, emotionally damaged, saddle-phobic — and, despite being sold as “perfect for beginners,” is anything but. With the guidance of a gifted ‘horse whisperer’, she learns to care for Elvis’s wounded body and spirit. Slowly, unexpectedly, Elvis leads her toward a new understanding of self-worth, creativity, and what it means to truly connect — with an animal, and with herself.

What They're Saying

Critics Review

‘This Elvis has all the swank, beauty and heartbreak of his namesake. A book for anyone who cares about animals - and music.’ Kristina Olsson, author of the award-winning memoir Boy, Lost.

‘An inspirational memoir,’ Candida Baker, Sydney Morning Herald, author

‘This unusual and accomplished tale shows us the deep affinity possible between humans and animals while recognising the unbridgeable chasm between their ways of existence.’
Peter Pierce, The Australian, author

This is a dangerous story; it shows how full of joy a life can become when you are brave enough to follow a passion.’
Maggie Mackellar, author
