About The Author

George Levy

George Levy is an accomplished motorsports author, speaker, and historian with a distinguished career. He previously served as President of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, located in Daytona Beach, Florida. Levy began his journalism career in 1980 at Autoweek, where he became editor at the young age of 27. His contributions have also appeared in publications such as RACER, Car and Driver, and Vintage Motorsport. In recent years, he has focused on writing books, with notable works including Can-Am 50th Anniversary: Flat Out with North America’s Greatest Race Series (2016), which received a Gold Medal at the 2017 International Automotive Media Competition, F1 Mavericks: The Men and Machines that Revolutionized Formula 1 Racing (2019), and Texas Legend: Jim Hall and his Chaparrals (2024). He resides in Ormond Beach, Florida.

Pete Biro is a photographer who commenced his motorsports photography in the 1950s, contributing to esteemed magazines like Road & Track and Car and Driver. As his career advanced, his work gained wider recognition in publications such as Time, LIFE, and Sports Illustrated, and he secured high-profile clients including the major US automakers and Goodyear Tire. He extensively covered the Can-Am series during its prominent years from 1966 to 1974, fostering close relationships with its leading drivers, team owners, and engineers.

Roger Penske is a towering figure in motorsports history, unmatched in the duration, scope, and extraordinary success of his involvement. Team Penske has achieved victory in every racing discipline it has entered, accumulating numerous championships in NASCAR, IndyCar, Can-Am, Trans-Am, IMSA, and ALMS. Known as “The Captain,” he has led his team to an unparalleled 20 Indianapolis 500 victories and a comparable number of IndyCar titles. Throughout his extensive career, Penske has employed a multitude of legendary drivers and partnered with prominent manufacturers.
