About The Author

Garry Weaven

Garry Weaven is the founder and recently retired Chair of IFM Investors, a global funds management company and a world-leading infrastructure investor, owned by a consortium of Australia’s industry superannuation funds.

As Assistant Secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) in the 1980s, Garry played a seminal role in establishing some of today’s major industry funds and campaigning for employer-funded superannuation across the workforce.

After a brief period of consulting for Westpac Financial Services, the Committee for Melbourne and others, he established Industry Fund Services in 1994, which became the catalyst for a range of collectively owned organisations and activities.

Garry also served as a foundation board member of Melbourne’s Docklands Authority and the Federal Government’s Infrastructure Australia and co-founded The New Daily, a free on-line daily news service. Today Garry continues his interest in responsible investing and encouraging the superannuation industry to address Australia’s affordable housing crisis. He lives with his partner Angela Emslie in Melbourne’s CBD.
