About The Author

Friedrich Nietzsche

Friedrich Nietzsche

Born on October 15, 1844, in Saxony-Anhalt, Friedrich Nietzsche was raised by Carl Ludwig Nietzsche and Franziska Oehler. He pursued studies in theology and classical philology at the University of Bonn, graduating in 1864.

During the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871), Nietzsche served as a medical orderly for the Prussian forces. His first published work, The Birth of Tragedy, a treatise on dramatic theory, appeared in 1872.

His philosophical novel, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, was written between 1883 and 1885 and includes the famous dictum “God is dead,” which first appeared in The Gay Science. Despite modest sales during his lifetime, Nietzsche’s works, such as Beyond Good and Evil, are now recognized as profoundly influential.

Nietzsche experienced a severe mental breakdown in January 1889. Following a period of declining health, he passed away on August 25, 1900. He is remembered as a seminal German philosopher whose ideas continue to exert significant power and influence.
