About The Author
Francis Hawkings
The Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation was founded in 1976 with the objective of advancing ‘the education of the public in the science and practice of navigation’. Its members write - and keep continually updated - pilot books covering many different parts of the world.
Francis Hawkings learned to sail in dinghies in the UK. His first cruising boat was a Contessa 26. Since 1992 he has owned the Tradewind 35 Plainsong, in which he has sailed some 35,000 ocean miles in the North and South Pacific, the South Atlantic and the Caribbean. He has rounded Cape Horn and sailed singlehanded from Hawaii to Japan. When not sailing, Francis splits his time between California and Scotland.
