Fernando Pessoa

Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935)

Considered the greatest Portuguese poet of the last century and one of Europe’s foremost poets, Fernando Pessoa left behind a posthumous archive of 25,426 items. This extensive collection includes poetry, philosophical writings, criticism, and other texts, notably comprising The Book of Disquietude. Carcanet was the first English-language publisher of Pessoa’s work in 1971, and later published Richard Zenith’s translation of The Book of Disquietude in 1997.

Eugenio Lisboa

Born in Mozambique in 1930 and educated there and in Portugal, Eugenio Lisboa is an eminent poet, essayist, and literary critic. His scholarly contributions include standard works on Jose Regio and Jorge de Sena, as well as critical studies of Portuguese modernism. He co-edited A Centenary Pessoa with L.C. Taylor for the Fyfield series.

L.C. Taylor

L.C. Taylor served as the director of the Gulbenkian Foundation and was a founder of the Carcanet Press / Gulbenkian Foundation series Aspects of Portugal. For this series, he edited Rose Macaulay’s They Went to Portugal, Too (1990). He also co-edited A Centenary Pessoa with Eugenio Lisboa for the Fyfield series.

Keith Bosley

Born in Buckinghamshire in 1937, Keith Bosley studied French at Reading, Paris, and Caen. He is the author of six collections of poetry. His extensive translation work, exceeding twenty published volumes, includes Finnish Folk Poetry: Epic (1977), Mallarmé: The Poems (1977), From the Theorems of Master Jean de La Ceppède (1983), and the Kalevala (1989).
