About The Author
Faisal Hossain
Faisal Hossain is a John R. Kiely Endowed Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Washington, Seattle. He has been carrying out research and educational activities in the field of water management for over 20 years. His research focuses on remote sensing, water resources engineering, and water-food-energy security. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including a US Fulbright Faculty Award, the NASA New Investigator Award, the Charles Falkenberg Award from the American Geophysical Union, and the Walter Huber Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers. He is a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Hossain has published over 180 peer-reviewed journal articles. He is the author of the undergraduate textbook Modern Concepts of Water Resources (2007, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh), and editor of many books, including Resilience of Large Water Management Infrastructure: Solutions from Modern Atmospheric Science (2019, Springer); Earth Science Satellite Applications: Current and Future Prospects (2016, Springer); and Satellite Rainfall Applications for Surface Hydrology (2007, Springer). He has produced and directed several documentary and fiction films, such as Bay of Hope (2015) and Cotton Fields from the Ivory Tower (2017). Hossain is also the author of books for children on The Secret Lives of Scientists, Engineers, and Doctors (in two volumes), and Robots and Other Amazing Gadgets Invented 800 Years Ago (all with Mascot).
