About the Author

Award-winning author Emily Lim-Leh is the first outside North America to win three medals for her children’s books at the IPPY awards (the world’s largest book awards) and also the first in South East Asia to win the Moonbeam Children’s Book Award. Like Little Godwit, Emily took a somewhat lonesome journey to find her wings as an author. Now, Emily’s imagination happily takes flight in search of new tales to write. Read more about Emily at /.Jessie Wee is one of the most prominent writers for children in Singapore. She was a teacher for 12 years before a chance encounter with a little button-eyed mouse in her kitchen started her writing stories out of a conviction that “children in Singapore need stories they can identify with, stories they can call their own”. In the course of her writing career, Jessie has written more than 30 books for children, three of which have won awards from the National Book Development Council of Singapore (NBDCS). Jessie’s stories are often imbued with warmth and humour, and reflect a sensitive understanding of the child. In 2013, Jessie was bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award in Children’s Literature by the NBDCS, recognising her outstanding and significant contribution as a writer of children’s literature.Madeline Beale is a writer and a stay-at-home mum to two beautiful girls: Sarah and Alaina. She taught creative writing and phonics and was also a part-time English tutor for kindergarten and lower primary students. Madeline stopped teaching after her elder daughter was born. In her spare time, she enjoys painting, cycling, a great coffee, and spending time with her family. Inspired by her daughters’ loving upbringing
from within their multicultural extended family, Madeline developed the Sarah series based on real experiences and her children’s simple understanding that no matter what type of family you have or where you come from, the most important element is unconditional love.Team leader Gelyn Ong is a 15-year-old child artist whose creative efforts are inspired by her interest in and passion for the natural environment. She started art at the tender age of two and since then, she has shown her compassion by helping the less fortunate. Her paintings and illustrations have raised more than S$800,000 for various charities. In addition, Gelyn has been appointed as WWF (World Wildlife Fund) Singapore’s Young Ambassador since 2012. Gelyn’s first illustrated book, The Forest Fable, published in June 2013 has won several awards and has also been translated into other languages such as Chinese and Vietnamese.
