Her work influenced child labour legislation. Contemporaries included Tennyson, Wordsworth, Robert Browning, Edgar Allan Poe, and Emily Dickinson. Notable works include “How Do I Love Thee?”, “The Cry of the Children”, “To Flush, My Dog”, and “A Musical Instrument”. She spent time in Florence.
