Description

The sturdy Fokker C.XIw was designed and built for service in the Royal Netherlands Navy. Development started in early 1934. The biplane scout was the first Dutch aircraft which could be catapult launched. At that time, a new flagship for the Netherlands East Indies Squadron was under construction and would receive a Heinkel K 8 catapult. Fifteen aircraft were ordered and served as long-range reconnaissance for the fleet from 1936 to 1942. It was mainly operated in the Netherlands Indies and stationed aboard illustrious ships such as the cruisers HNLMS De Ruyter, Java, and Tromp.

Het boek geeft een prima overzicht van vrijwel alle aspecten van de Fokker C.XIw. De fraaie foto’s zijn op groot formaat afgedrukt en verder zijn de diverse profielen (zijaanzichten in kleur van de C.XIw’s in diverse beschilderingen) van de hand van Luca Canossa noemenswaardig.

About the Author

Edwin Hoogschagen has been studying Dutch aviation history since the late 1990s and specialises in Fokker types from the interbellum. His main activities are focused on the Fokker G-1 and Fokker C.5. Since 2001, he has been a member of the Fokker G-1 establishment and, from 2007 onwards, a committee member.
