Critics Review
Edward Howells and Mark McIntosh are to be commended for having pulled together an impressive volume. The Oxford Handbook of Mystical Theology will take its place alongside other important reference works on Christian mysticism, advancing both the study and the experience of the Christian mystery. * Timothy Robinson, Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, TX, 76129, USA, Religious Studies Reviews *…this is a wonderful resource overall and a worthy addition to any theological library. * Steven Payne, TERESIANUM 73 *The Oxford Handbook of Mystical Theology is simultaneously rigorous, innovative and accessible. It is easily recommended for undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as for scholars in adjoining fields and even experienced mysticism scholars….While much has been written about Christian mystical theology in the last thirty years, this volume is a welcome addition, moving far beyond summaries and providing many innovative insights that will help to shape the field in years to come. * Michael Hahn, Reading Religion, American Academy of Religion *This volume is well organized, thoughtfully assembled, and brings together an incredible list of senior scholars alongside younger contributors. It is uniformly stellar, a rare feat for a volume of this size. Perhaps its most impressive trait is simply the quality of contributors .. It would make an excellent text in upper-divisional undergraduate and graduate courses that address spirituality and theology, and many of the essays would be helpful texts to supplement courses in theology and spirituality respectively. * Kyle Strobel, International Journal of Systematic Theology *An up-to-date and informative work of reference … succinct and accessible. * David Lonsdale, The Way *
